Day 5
Railfanning Marias Pass! We were worried about the weather
but it seems to have held off for a day. Before heading out, we caught three
trains at the Isaak Walton. An east bound freight with some old BN green
engines plus an MRL engine, then a west bound with the pedestrian crosswalk shown,
and finally the Amtrak Empire Builder. The Isaak Walton is a stop for Amtrak. Guests
will be picked up and dropped off by the Inn's van.
Driving up and over the pass, chased the Empire Builder to Two Medicine
bridge. This is a classic Marias Pass area shot.
Great shot, so we did it again with a west bound grain train.
Heading back west to Summit, we get the grain train again along
with this east bound empty grain train.
The sun wasn't great for this shot, but this is another classic
Marias Pass shot, including the "most photographed barn in Montana".
Last train shot that I will post for this day. This is the trestle across
Goat Lick creek. Another Northern Montana classic.
For of those of you who are not railfans, here are a couple of scenic shots.
Todays funny. Nancy was trying to decide whether or not we
wanted to stay the night in the teepee. With temperatures in the high 50s, I
don't think so.
